[+17] Red Dead Redemption 2 Tips. The Ultimate Guide to Help You Win.

Find the game challenging? Most gamers like you feel the same way.

Searching for Red Dead Redemption 2 tips or guide maybe one of the reasons why you are here. Whether you are a trophy or achievement hunter or not, you may find this RDR 2 guide useful on your adventure especially if you are a starter.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a challenging game. There are no settings to change the difficulty so all RDR 2 gamers are on the same settings whichever platform you are gaming on.

I hope this guide will help you avoid rookie mistakes and set you up for the long haul leading to more enjoyable gaming. Now let’s get on to the RDR 2 tips.

1st Tip: Take Your Time. Take It Slow

We will start in a mindset shift. Don’t play this game in a fast-paced manner like most of the other games you have played. One of the reasons why this game is so special is this game heavily relies on details.

Rockstar gave you a hint on how this game is supposed to be played in the opening tutorial. If you don’t get it, the message they want to convey is that you should play this game slow and you have to embrace it.

Developers took their time to craft this game for you so you should too. This game is 8 years in the making in case you don’t know.

This is like a full-time job so be prepared. An enjoyable full-time job and consider yourself you have an alternative life living in the old west.

2nd Red Dead Redemption Tip – Manage Your Energy

You may find yourself tired after constantly pressing on the run button. This may give you some challenges exploring the environments and doing other things.

Save yourself some efforts. You are managing Arthur and your horse’s stamina so you should manage your own too.

In the settings, go to the Controls menu. You can see the Running Mode (On-Foot Only) option and switch it to Toggle To Run. Now you only need to tap the run/walk key once rather than constantly holding it down.

Do you still think that’s too much effort? Then enter the first-person mode. You will be naturally faster without pressing any key.

You don’t want your stamina depleted that could affect yourself enjoying the game. Would you?

3rd RDR 2 tip: Save Time And Travel Fast

You want to spend your time efficiently while playing the game. The map is so massive that sometimes you wish you can teleport.

Yes, you can travel by horse, train, and other means of transportation but that is not enough. Fortunately, there is fast travel. But, don’t expect it to be Skyrim-like fast travel.

You can unlock this feature by upgrading your camp. Once you finished Chapter 2’s Money and Other Sins mission, you can interact with the camp’s ledger. You need to improve Dutch’s hut and Arthur’s set up, meaning, you will need at least $500 to unlock the fast travel. A bit expensive but worth it in the long run.

Red Dead Redemption 2 tips - Fast Travel

Yes, you can’t do this on day one but I highly recommend you do this as soon as possible. Also, bear in mind that you can’t fast travel back to camp or anywhere else. This is not like Skyrim, as I said before.

4th tip for Red Dead Redemption 2: Stop Buying Guns. Get Them Free

I know it is tempting to buy guns and you know how hard money is especially in the early part of the game. Fortunately, you can acquire guns for free. Don’t know where to start? This is what this Red Dead Redemption 2 guide is for.

Once you are free in the open world after the introduction, ride out to the river in the road south of Caliban’s seat. Make sure you have a health cure for you. You will find an NPC who is bitten by a snake. Give him the health cure. Make sure you give him immediately so he won’t die. After a few days, head to the gunsmith store in Valentine and you will find the guy you helped sitting on the porch in the store. Talk to him and he will reward you with a free gun!

In this game, there are a lot of chances to get free guns like this so don’t be tempted to spend your money on guns too much and better spend money on something else.

5th important tip: Keep It Clean

Most RDR 2 players only realized the importance of cleaning your guns later in the game. I’m sure you don’t want to be part of them, do you? So keep an eye on the condition of your weapons on the weapon wheel.

Just like in real life, guns in Red Dead Redemption should be cleaned and maintained for longevity and reliability. You will be surprised by the difference between a wore down and a properly maintained gun. For me it is unbelievable.

Weapons in poor conditions will do less damage, reload slower and sometimes will jam.

Stock up on gun oil to clean and maintain your guns. Buying leather wraps for your rifle and upgrading your holsters are good coz that will help to slow down weapon degradation.

Avoid spending too much time on situations where your gun can get wet or muddy. If you are gonna spend a bit of time in rivers, you can leave your weapons on your horse.

You can see the difference between a dirty and cleaned gun below:

6. You Put Eggs On Your Basket. Then Get A Bigger Basket. Early.

The world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is so massive. There are lots of items you will encounter as you explore.

Make your life easier and make satchel upgrades be one of your priorities.

More space, more loot you can get, more everything. You will thank me for sure if you follow my advice to upgrade your satchel as soon as possible. It will give you more convenience and be greatly beneficial on your RDR 2 journey.

7th tip might surprise you: Good Guy Arthur

You may not believe that in this Rockstar game, you are supposed to be a good person 😂. And the irony is, you are an outlaw. So be a good and honorable outlaw.

Honor and honor system plays a big part in the game and there are way more benefits in being an honorable outlaw than the opposite.

It is difficult at first because there are missions that you are required to do some bad dishonorable things like robbery, beating people up, etc. But that’s part of the story and the game.

Be as honorable as much as possible. It is definitely worth helping everyone as much as you can.

The more honorable you are, the more discounts you’ll get, and the more the drop rate increase of beneficial items like tonics and pieces of jewelry. You will also get more outfit options the higher your honor.

It is also a good idea to give back to your camp. You can give money or items. You may not see the benefits immediately but in the long run, you will see it is worth it. You will not only improve your Karma with your gang members but the Camp will also allow you to unlock better upgrades, special features, and abilities.

8. Hold Your Horses!

Horses can be found in the wilderness. Save yourself money by searching them out in the wilderness instead of buying them. Don’t like what you found? Then sell them.

Remember, Read Dead Redemption 2 is ready to give you a bunch of resources to start the game except money so it is always a good idea to be resourceful.

9. Trust Your Horses

Yup, second Red Dead Redemption 2 tip about horses!

I’m pretty sure you face-planted trees multiple times in the game. If you talked to a lot of RDR 2 players, you will know that falling off your horses is a common occurrence.

Don’t try to do it yourself because you can dodge trees automatically by letting your horse do the thing. When riding through heavily forested areas, keep tapping the run button but don’t touch the joystick. Your horse will automatically navigate through the trees. This is very handy, especially during pursuits.

10. Make Looting Easy By Making Them Glow

You may not know it but you can use eagle eye to acquire more items. Activating Eagle Eye will make loots glow making it easy for you to see them.

Most newbies didn’t know this but you can also use Eagle eye indoors. Using Eagle Eye will reveal where the loots are stored. This could be drawers or chests that you didn’t know you could open.

11th important tip for RDR2: Avoid Reloading

I’m not saying you should avoid reloading your guns but the reloading animation, which slows you down. Reloading in RDR 2 is realistic. That also means it is slow. Like 2-3 seconds slow for most of the guns. Luckily, this animation can be skipped.

This trick is from the original Red Dead Redemption and it’s so nice to know that this trick still works and is working on any weapon. Use Dead Eye for a split second when you are about to reload.

The slow reloading animation will be skipped then your gun will be instantly reloaded. Always remember this in gunfights when you are at the end of your clips or magazines.

Very effective and useful. I’m sure a lot of you guys will take advantage of this valuable RDR 2 tip.

12. Master The Lasso

Most rookies don’t know this but lasso is so useful not just for horse hunting. You can also use lasso in fighting and hunting.

If you punch people with the lasso equipped, you will instantly hog tie them and will end the fight quickly.

Lasso is also a good tool for effective hunting and will give you perfect pelts. Stop using weapons like dynamites when hunting that ruins the pelts. You can use lasso on hunting pretty much any animals in the game. Of course, some animals can’t be lassoed. Don’t try it on alligator coz it won’t work. Also on fishes and birds, obviously.

13. Talk to Strangers

Remember when your mom said avoid talking to strangers? That doesn’t apply on this game 😂.

Approach strangers as many as you can and help them. Small acts of kindness will give you rewards. You will get an honor, items, information and other stuff that are useful on your adventure.

Great for your karma too and it is fun. Surely worth it and will lengthen the game’s life.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Tips - talk to strangers

14. Never Forget The Basics

I believe it’s a good idea to talk about the basics. Understanding how Arthur’s stacks replenish is key for your survival. You may already know this but this could serve as a good reminder.

Look at the Dead Eye. The outer core represents the ability you have at the moment. The inner icon or the core represents how quickly your outer bar will refill once it’s being used up. If your core is empty your dead eye won’t refill naturally. You need to use an item or have a rest.

Tonics only restore the outer bar and provisions only restore the core. If your core is empty, use a provision before using a tonic. Otherwise, you’re not solving the core problem.

15. Use The Companion Mobile App

Most RDR 2 players didn’t know this but this game has a free downloadable mobile app. That’s why this Red Dead Redemption 2 tip might put you in a better position.

The app can be used as a real-time map complete with waypoint functionality. Helping your exploration and discover more on the huge world of RDR 2. The app is also a good way of accessing the map without using some space on your screen.

Turning off the on-screen radar will make the game look and feel more realistic. It will make you feel you’re in the good old days of the wild wild west.

Aside from using the mobile app as a map, you can use it as a journal, track your stats and more.

16. The Lawmen Are Your Friends

Sometimes, when you ran into a wrong camp even if you do something wrong or nothing against them, all of a sudden tens of people will be shooting at you.

When you find yourself in this kind of losing battle against multiple shooters, go to a place where there might be a lawman.

When these lawmen see people shooting at you, they will not ignore you and they will help you.

17. This Game Is Old School So Let’s Be Old School

I’m talking about saving your progress.

Most of the games today trains us to rely too much on autosaves. Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of them. Of course autosaving is effective but I will still remind you that it is still the best to save your game manually.

Manual saving offers more peace of mind to make sure nothing is lost.

Build a habit of manually saving before or after a major event.

With multiple save slots, these will come in handy for you to experiment with the challenges that lie ahead or have multiple types of a playthrough. I will also remind you that quitting the game during a mission will usually make you start the mission again from scratch.

These wraps ups the useful RDR 2 tips for now. I wish I have known these sooner and I could have saved a lot of time and effort. The game is massive and we haven’t scratched the surface yet. You may see a part 2 of this Red Dead Redemption 2 guide and get more tips soon.

Hopefully, you can apply these RDR 2 tips and let us know if these helped you with your game. I also hope you enjoyed reading this article and let me know your thoughts in the comments section.
